Germany Deserve To Be In Final - Siasia

Head Coach of the U-23 team, Samson Siasia, on Wednesday showered praises on their German counterparts after the 2-0 defeat suffered in the semifinal of the Rio Olympics Games football event.

Siasia said the Germans not only had answers to all the moves of his boys, they were completely in control of the encounter.
“The German team did better. They were far superior and we made the game easy for them. “It is a shame but we don’t deserve to stay in the final playing like that,” he said.

The coach however frowned over the chances missed by the players and their general attitude throughout the match. Siasia said: “I am disappointed. Even the big chances we had, we couldn’t score.

The match was almost one-sided and that shows the general approach of the players. We do not deserve to win or proceed to the final.

Not with the way we played.” Team Captain Mikel Obi who also shared the view of the coach about the superiority of the Germans said it was important to put the game behind them.

Mikel stressed that the third place match against Honduras on Saturday was the most important match to the team and Nigerians.

The Chelsea player said: “Our plan was to win gold but somehow we cannot but we have a second and last chance to win a medal.

Not all the teams that started this competition have such opportunity.

Some have gone home.
“We really have to up our game and go all the way for the bronze. Against Germany, we didn’t play well.
We don’t deserve to be in the final but now as professional players, we know the implication of this Honduras match. I am optimistic, we will get the medal.”
