Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, announced the launch of her website along with a mobile application a few days ago, sending the online community in Nigeria into a frenzy.
Twitter and Instagram were especially agog as fans and followers of the beautiful actress started reacting upon receiving the news. The star announced this earlier in the week, intimating her followers of an accompanying mobile application she believes will help bring her fans closer. Aigbe made the announcement on Instagram, writing:
“Yippee!!!! My app is now up for download and it’s FREE! Go to Google Play Store or click on the link in my BIO! I am so excited sharing this with my FANS. Guess what? ……my fans will be able to chat with one another and I will also be able to chat with them one on one, on my website. Be the first to know what mercy is up to! Carry mercy everywhere u go. Go download Mercy Aigbe-Gentry app!”While some fans seemed happy for the actress, noting it was coming less than a month after she was signed up by a technology company, others wondered aloud about the usefulness of the mobile application.
Due to the popularity of Aigbe, who is also a producer, it soon became one of the day’s trending topics especially after a number of fans who logged into the website, www.mercyaigbegentry.com wondered what the app was about.
The trend is fast catching on among popular global entertainers, and Aigbe may just be the first Nigerian actress to launch her own mobile application but she is not the first Nigerian entertainer to blaze the trail. That honour belongs to accomplished singer, Yemi Alade, who launched her personal mobile app in December 2015.
