Six Vehicles, Several Houses Burnt As Truck Laden With Petrol Explodes In Edo

Hundreds of traders, artisans and residents of Aduwawa Market along the deplorable Benin-Auchi Road near Benin the Edo State capital Wednesday bemoaned their fate as their wares, vehicles, houses and other valuables went up in flames following a tanker explosion.

The sad incident, which occurred at about 7:10am, involved a truck laden with petrol that fell following a bad spot at the popular Upper Mission Extension Junction of the Aduwawa End of the dual carriage Benin-Auchi Road now under reconstruction by the Ray Royal Construction (RCC) firm.
New Telegraph learnt that the driver of the truck was said to be trying to make a U-turn at the junction when it ran into a deep bad spot which broke the spring of the vehicle’s shock absorber holding the front tyre, which to pulled off, a development that made the truck topple over at the centre of the road.

Eye witness said that moments the truck fell, all the petrol in the tanker started to spill, even as some persons started scooping the spilled petroleum product while others scampered for safety.
